A Tasca do Luís LUÍS RODRIGUES

A Macanese who is a warrior of Minho

Braga is one of the oldest and beautiful cities in Portugal.
Founded by the Romans as "Bracara Augusta" for over 2000 years
in honor of Emperor Cesar Augustus, Braga is a city strongly marked by Christianity.
The "Sanctuary of Bom Jesus", located at the east,
blesses this Minho city every morning with its first sunrise.

Luís Octávio Mendes Rodrigues, a Macao native; son of a Portuguese father
who was from São João da Pesqueira in Régua, and of a Chinese mother;
immigrated to Braga at a young age, where he did college
and played football for the city’s club junior division, Sporting Braga.
Luís has then developed a passion for Portugal,
in which are evident in the decoration of scarves, flags, posters
and other objects related to the Selection of “Quinas” (*), in his little tavern.

The inauguration of “A Tasca do Luís” in May 2008,
has mislead many to think that this was his first business.
His first restaurant business was inaugurated in 1979 in the village of Coloane,
when he returned to Macao, with air tickets offered by the Portuguese Government to those who were interested in returning back to their origins at the time.
The Tasca was called "Ferra-o-Bico", a name he adapted from the restaurant
where he learnt to cook in Torre Vedras, during his stay in Portugal.

After "Ferra-o-Bico", Luís had two more little taverns “A Tasca”,
as he likes to call them, between 1984 and 1996 in Areia Preta.
Therefore "A Tasca do Luís” is his fourth business in the restaurant industry
and probably the last in Macao, as he spends the larger part of the year in Thailand, where he resides in Pattaya.
Luís has recently passed the testimony to his son Emanuel, who little by little,
is following the footsteps of his Father and taking over the business.
Currently the “Tasca” is highly overrun by tourists from
Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea
and the most requested dishes are "Cod Fish Cream", "Grilled Pork Knuckle", "Cow's Hoof with Chickpeas", "Seafood Rice" and "Grilled Chicken".

One of the greatest joys that Luís Rodrigues recently experienced was
seeing Portugal become the European football Cup Champion, on the very same day Joana; his daughter; had her birthday, in which he had a major celebration
in Bangkok on 11 July 2016.

(*) Whether is sunny or rainy, whether there's the sign of typhoon 8,
Luis is recognized at a distance due to his passion for Portugal:
Every morning he wears with great pride a shirt of the Selection of
“Quinas” – Portugal.

He does not miss a single day.
